Re: New Elvis/Burt Bacharach songs!!

Hey Neil, don't you think the Imposters might be a bit too "rocky" for PFM V2 - I'd rather have Burt's orchestrations and Steve's piano in this instance and the new Imposters album being like Momofuku ! True - but maybe with things being as they are in the record industry (i.e. no dosh) t...

Re: Big Issue interview , May 2018

Hawksmoor, you're right - the lyrics are very weird and dark, but the sound of the chorus sounds like an out-and-out love song. Sulky - but surely Loveable's lyrics disqualify it? Isn't he saying that his ex-lover is having flings all round town? And he slags off her present lover, I think. But the ...

Re: Big Issue interview , May 2018

Verbal, the only thing stopping me from thinking you ARE Elvis is the fact that more than once I've seen you in the same room as him! Re joy - 'From Head To Toe' is pretty joyous in its execution, though the original joy is Smokey Robinson's. And of course, you can always feel the joy Elvis feels wh...

Re: Big Issue interview , May 2018

True, re 'Let Me Tell You...' and those other North songs. I think 'Loveable' has a fab joyous feel, but the lyrics are actually criticising the lover. Yep, Sweet Pear is amazing and should be a standard. There's a bleakness to it, too, though, with the apocalyptic ending. My Three Sons - of course!

Re: Big Issue interview , May 2018

The bit about expressing joy is really interesting. He has tons of joyous pop melodies (I'm glad he identifies himself as pop, because for me pop means melody - and boy, can he come up with a melody. He's underrated as a melodist - people rightly go on about his lyrics, but it's that skill allied to...

Totally marvellous recording, defo. I just prefer the melody of TNTP...

In other news - TNTP is a bit like Motel Matches - which I've already mentioned is a relative of Little Triggers... which are all cousins of Country Darkness.

Just to chip in that 'That's Not The Part Of Him You're Leaving' is better than 'Poisoned Rose' (and 'Poisoned Rose' is already pretty damn good to start with).

Ha ha - that's brilliant. Good on the Elvis fan music teacher! (Unless it was the teacher's 45th birthday - bit egomaniacal if so. But maybe the school itself is 45 years old?)

Hmmm - if the album's out in September, that suggests another tour this autumn. I wonder whether therefore we'll be treated to any of the new songs in the summer tour. I hope he plays loads of 'em.

Hard though it is to understand as fans, Elvis's people are doing the right thing. It's providing the bare minimum in austere times for the industry - austerity that is not going to go away. All that needs to be updated is concert dates and news. Elvis's website will not have high traffic - that is ...

Okay, according to Google Trends, they should really call the 'Events' section 'Tour' - that's what people search for most. See the results (green is 'tour') https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Elvis%20Costello%20gig,Elvis%20Costello%20concert,Elvis%20Costello%20show,Elvis%20Costello%20tour,E...
