Sean Connery's from Edinburgh, but we've already had an Edinburgh clue I believe.

Re: Elvis's most 'Marmite' project

Yeah, it took me ages to get into TJL, but I think it's great now. I think the string quartet sound takes some getting used to - it can be such a mournful sound, but you eventually realise that TJL is full of colours and varied playing. I'd forgotten about 'Il Songo' - I've hardly ever listened to i...

Elvis's most 'Marmite' project

Hi all - I'm really looking forward to an imminent production of The Juliet Letters in Peckham (https://www.mountview.org.uk/whats-on/show/the-juliet-letters/), but some fans have said that TJL doesn't really float their boat. So do we think The Juliet Letters is Elvis's most Marmite* project? Or ar...

Re: Juliet Letters, Peckham, in October

Yes, definitely up for seeing this. I can't go on Weds 9th or the Saturday matinee.

So for me it's any of the evenings of 10, 11, 12 Oct. I'm tempted to say the Saturday eve, but people with families might find that harder.

Juliet Letters, Peckham, in October

Re: ELVIS COSTELLO & THE IMPOSTERS ANNOUNCE UPCOMING FALL TOUR

Though I long to see Elvis perform again in the UK, I have no feeling of entitlement. I imagine he must have mixed feelings about his homeland - the fun bauble of the OBE (for services rendered - a bit like an Oscar or a Hollywood pavement star[!]) pitted against the horrible shift in this country s...

Neil. - we could call the awards “The Pride of the Nation”. You should propose it - this is your big opportunity  Hee hee. I dunno - something like 'The Queen's medal'/'The King's Medal' might be a way to go. Get rid of that empire connotation. They could do away with the fuzzy distinction bet...

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

I don't think an OBE has the same archaic meaning it used to have. The British Empire doesn't exist anymore, it doesn't mean bowing and scraping to the monarchy and doesn't mean becoming part of the establishment. Many recipients are now people who stand up for causes and rights of others. For exam...

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

I'm surprised it was offered, and I'm surprised that he accepted. But I don't mind that he accepted. I'm ambivalent about the royals - the fact we pay for them - but I quite enjoy the ridiculous soap opera of it all. Albeit a very expensive soap opera!

Wow, I had no idea this version existed. Yeah, definitely adds to that Carpenters/Bread/Chicago kinda vibe that American MOR radio would have loved (and which I love, too, I might add!)

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I love this video - it's so alive and constantly shifting. Terrific job. I think he must have produced it as a foretaste of the Blondie tour rather than to promote the album last October.
