Re: early bugs!

I don't think it's to do with copyright law necessarily. I think it's accepted that a song is written by a writer, then given to a band to play. There'd be no song without the writer - so consequently there'd be on no bassline, drum part, keyboard solo... However, some bands have made a deal whereby...

So gutted to have missed this - I love 'Go Away', 'Beaten to the Punch' - and as it's been described as an out-take from Blood & Chocolate, I am doubly, triply pissed off! Graaargh!

Happy New Year, by the way!

Hi all,

Just to say there are two more podcasts in this series, taking it up to four in total so far.

They are brilliant for Elvis nuts like us - pure geek heaven!

Re: A Face In The Crowd: new musical for 2021

I really hope it happens, but new musicals always have such a chequered path. A big show cost a fortune to put on, and getting all the backers in place etc, is a nightmare. Perhaps they'll manage to do an off-Broadway, stripped down show? But Jackman would mean Broadway proper, and he's already slat...

For me, Ella Fitzgerald trumps Judy Garland, although I realise that opinion may be sacrilege to some ears.

Not sacrilege at all - I love Ella's version, too!

Re Mighty Like A Rose - I didn't realise it was a song, I thought it was a poem.

Here's a jazzed-up version:

Sounds like the original version is a lullaby, as evidenced by Sulky Lad's misty-eyed memories.

Thanks, MOOT. Darn, it's a shame there's no recording. It's sad. It's sad. It's a sad, sad situation. And it's getting more and more absurd.

Elvis sings Elton and Sting

I'm pretty sure that about 15 years ago, Elvis sang both these at live tribute concerts: Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word Ev'ry Little Thing She Does Is Magic Do they exist at all, anywhere? I can imagine he'd've done a great version in both cases. I believe The Police number was done with a uke, ...

Re: Spanish This Year’s Model - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!

I think this is a great idea. I loved 'Crawling to the USA'. I don't think it's being done for existing Elvis fans - I think it's to create new Elvis fans in new markets, so if it helps create royalties where they didn't exist before, then good for him! It's tough to make money as a musician these d...

Re: Twilight of the Gods

I persist in my belief that 1978-to-1983 was the most exiting, most fruitful and most brilliantly innovative period for popular music ever. But then, I turned fourteen in 1978 and went to college in 1982, so I probably would think that, wouldn't I! :) Yeah, I was aged 10 to 15 during that period an...

Great piece of writing, Hawksmoor. Yeah, it was a golden era for musicians - when they stopped being wandering mistrels and could become millionaires. That's probably gone forever now that streaming for pennies is the thing - no-one will be able to become so wealthy off music again. The artists who ...
