Re: Remedy Robinson's podcast about Elvis's lyrics.

Agreed - this sounded promising, but the druggy-sounding, hypnotic delivery ruined it for me and made me stop listening. It was too soporific and stylised.

Is it too much to hope that this will be a DVD release of the Almost Blue Albert Hall RPO concert? I've only ever seen one clip.

'Unprecedented'... 'based on'...

So if it's unprecedented, it won't be loads of alternate takes, cos we've had that.

Maybe it's a live album taken from on the 'Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers' tour?

'Around the Piano with Tom Odell' - ep 3

This is a decade-by-decade account of piano as used in pop music, from the 60s onwards. I've not heard of Tom Odell, but it seems he's a big deal as a newish singer songwriter. Elvis and Steve are given a nod early in the third episode about the 80s & 90s, from 07 min 19 sec: https://www.bbc.co....

Glad you mentioned this, Colin - just managed to nab one near the front of the Hammersmith balcony. Only a few left at the back, now. That said, a lot may have been snuffled by agencies!

Sulky, Strict Time was a coincidence: https://twitter.com/ElvisCostello/status/1187743604984422400 Neil it wasn't a request, it was advisory  Chuckle. That's a very ambiguous tweet. Yeah, I too love 'Impatience' - but unless they hire a horn section, I doubt we'll hear it on this tour.

Yeah, I seem to remember reading somewhere that 'This Year's Model' was Elton's favourite record of that year.

Elvis in new Elton John autobiography

Hi all - I had a peek in the index of the new Reg Dwight tome. Elvis gets a mention - I think it was page 167, or 267.

It says that in the mid-70s, Elton offered to be pianist on the Live Stiffs tour with Elvis et al!! Can you imagine? He says he offered cos he had a crush on Wreckless Eric.

Speaking of which, I've always thought someone should do a mash-up of the Sesame Street theme tune and Tokyo Storm Warning.

Re: Juliet Letters, Peckham, in October

Yeah, it was really impressive - not a string quartet, there were about 20 actors all playing out different scenarios, with solo singing and very impressive choral harmonies. The quality was high throughout but standouts were This Offer Is Unrepeatable, Damnation's Cellar, Dear Sweet Filthy World an...

Re: Elvis's most 'Marmite' project

Yeah, it took me ages to get into TJL, but I think it's great now. I think the string quartet sound takes some getting used to - it can be such a mournful sound, but you eventually realise that TJL is full of colours and varied playing. I'd forgotten about 'Il Songo' - I've hardly ever listened to i...

Elvis's most 'Marmite' project

Hi all - I'm really looking forward to an imminent production of The Juliet Letters in Peckham (https://www.mountview.org.uk/whats-on/show/the-juliet-letters/), but some fans have said that TJL doesn't really float their boat. So do we think The Juliet Letters is Elvis's most Marmite* project? Or ar...

Yes, definitely up for seeing this. I can't go on Weds 9th or the Saturday matinee.

So for me it's any of the evenings of 10, 11, 12 Oct. I'm tempted to say the Saturday eve, but people with families might find that harder.

Hi all, Elvis's song cycle is being performed at Mountview Theatre School. According to the brochure (page 5) https://issuu.com/mountview/docs/autumn_season_e-brochure_19_issuu , the dates are: 9, 10, 11 (7.15pm) 12 Oct (2.15pm & 7.15pm) Looks as though the booking page hasn't gone live yet, but...

Well, there's a McCallum Theatre in California. Or perhaps part of the tour will be solo - Napoleon Solo?
