This has to be right. Okay, so a major London gig and a tour of seaside towns. Marvellous - welcome home, Elvis! We'll be there!

Agreed, Verbal, Shoes Without Heels is a stone cold classic that I've never heard done live. King of Confidence would be great to hear ringing out into an auditorium, too.

Re: ELVIS COSTELLO & THE IMPOSTERS ANNOUNCE UPCOMING FALL TOUR

Though I long to see Elvis perform again in the UK, I have no feeling of entitlement. I imagine he must have mixed feelings about his homeland - the fun bauble of the OBE (for services rendered - a bit like an Oscar or a Hollywood pavement star[!]) pitted against the horrible shift in this country s...

Aha! That's why he tweeted those photos of Hollywood stars a while back! He must've been told, but has kept it under his hat (or hats - he's got loads of 'em).

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

Neil. - we could call the awards “The Pride of the Nation”. You should propose it - this is your big opportunity  Hee hee. I dunno - something like 'The Queen's medal'/'The King's Medal' might be a way to go. Get rid of that empire connotation. They could do away with the fuzzy distinction bet...

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

I don't think an OBE has the same archaic meaning it used to have. The British Empire doesn't exist anymore, it doesn't mean bowing and scraping to the monarchy and doesn't mean becoming part of the establishment. Many recipients are now people who stand up for causes and rights of others. For exam...

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

I'm surprised it was offered, and I'm surprised that he accepted. But I don't mind that he accepted. I'm ambivalent about the royals - the fact we pay for them - but I quite enjoy the ridiculous soap opera of it all. Albeit a very expensive soap opera!

Wow, I had no idea this version existed. Yeah, definitely adds to that Carpenters/Bread/Chicago kinda vibe that American MOR radio would have loved (and which I love, too, I might add!)

Wow, this is great news! Let's hope they get Shoes Without Heels in there, Motel Matches, Stranger in the House, Heart-Shaped Bruise... what else?

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Sulky Lad. RIP. I bet the organist at his funeral wasn't as good as him!

I love this video - it's so alive and constantly shifting. Terrific job. I think he must have produced it as a foretaste of the Blondie tour rather than to promote the album last October.

Re: Fraser Anning Tweet

Yes, I saw it. I really didn't know what to make of it. As most people have pointed out in the thread, it looked very much like a hack. Some said it was Elvis being sarcastic, but it definitely wasn't in his style - it wasn't articulate enough.

Re: Spike: 30 years ago

Last Boat Leaving is one of my favourite Elvis songs. Although it is not what the songs about it makes me think of when I got divorced ( we split in 1990) and the lyric 'you've taken the place where I once belonged now what more can you take' is one of my favourite Elvis lines. Those who know me wi...

Nice little soundbites, John. I remember seeing the press release for 'Spike' in the NME and being really excited. God, the wait since Blood & Choc had seemed like a lifetime! It had a lot of coverage - I remember the Radio 1 Breakfast team going on about it, there was the Sarah McLeod interview...

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

I can't find mention of it here but I've just watched The Trip with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, series 3 (in Spain) episode 2. Brydon sings 'Toldeo" in a Costello-like way and Coogan gives 'Oliver's Army' a blast - neither very good but great fun. Here's the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watc...
