Re: Pomp & Pout: Best of The Universal Years -release cancel

And maybe they can use the extra time to figure out a way to get She added to the track list in the US. (GGMS is a lower priority for me, but that would be nice too)

Re: Elvis's last great album

I'm in the small minority that considers WIWC a great album, and therefore for me, it's his last great album. And I agree that WIWC inspired a truly kickass tour. It felt so good to hear a live no-frills rock set again... North is good but didn't stick to my ribs. TDM was great, but I only listen to...

Re: When was your first Elvis gig?

Although I became a rabid fan in the early 80s, I didn't see him live until 1994, at Summerstage in Central Park with the Attractions. After that, I made up for lost time: Many shows at the Beacon Theater, various years (Attractions, C/N, other combos) Several at Town Hall/NYC, and again at Summerst...

I can see the attraction to voting for MOOT, but ultimately I voted for BB. MOOT lends itself more to the role of "sweeping epic for the time capsuleâ„¢", but for me BB is just as powerful, and leaves me just as breathless. I wonder if people would get a different vibe from BB if it were t...

How does EC own a track written by Kurt Weill? Or are you commenting on his great performance of it? (It's Friday, I've got one frontal lobe out the door)

Love them both equally, but I think the seesaw tips slightly in MOOT's favor.

It does contain 2 classics, and I like Across the Universe, but somehow the Philly Soul sound of the rest of it hasn't aged as well for me.

Sorry, you have to have at least 100 posts to qualify for this vote. I did mean to do a best avatar ctegory, but let's face it you would walk away with it......but let's see.
The write-in part was a joke, actually.

You can't listen to an artist's output in isolation from their total output, can you? Most don't, but I imagine some can. I don't do it to that extreme, but I try not to instantly compare something negatively to my faves by an artist, it's not really fair to the work. It should be judged on its own...

There are all kinds of Bowie fans, and no set rules about which albums to credit and discredit. Most people are in agreement that Never Let Me Down sucked rubber donkey lungs, but beyond that it's completely a matter of taste and experience. I never said Tonight was a great Bowie album. I said it wa...

While I didn't put it on my tops list, I will defend 1984's Tonight as quite a decent listen. Loving the Alien is a classic, and Blue Jean is a perfectly crafted pop single. The dearth of covers (Tonight, Neighborhood Threat, God Only Knows, I Keep Forgetting) isn't unprecedented, and at least two o...

It's from Night Ride Home. In the liner notes, she credits Yeats, billing the song as "Music by JM, Based on a poem by WB Yeats". But that's all the detail she goes into.
