You're right. It's a very poorly written sentence. "That was the case" might be referring to "go[ing] back to what he does best," in which case it could be correct. Or it could be referring to "every now and again he overreaches," which would make more sense grammatical...

That was the case when Costello and Toussaint landed at the Bank of America Pavilion a week ago ( huh ? - J.F.) last Wednesday night Funny, it felt to me like it was only the night before last...how time flies! Seriously, though, I'm pretty sure the actual print version of The Phoenix is a weekly, ...

We were very lucky. Being able to chat in a more leisurely fashion with Mr. C. and fellow musicians was the icing on the cake after such a fantastic show. We congratulated him on the baby news, and he graciously thanked us, but didn't elaborate. We told him it was a tremendous show and he said that ...

Yup, we were there. It was amazing. Won't bore you here with all of my verbose ruminations and our backstage post-show story, but if you're interested it's on my MySpace blog (yes, the hideously addictive "MySpace"!): http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=8577...

Okay, I had a cup of coffee and watched it again (yes, again)...it's HYSTERICAL!! It has to be a joke! What I want to know is what's up with the angels in the Australian outback, the dachshund and the guy in the bug-eyed get-up??? Have to give it to Mr. Baywatch for not taking himself too seriously,...

Check this out and you will see the amazing, um, "abilities" of Mr. Hasselhoff http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=Gi2CfuqcUGE This really is "must-see" stuff. The emetic properties of Mitch Buchanan are stunning. WOW! That really is scary! it's not even 8 a.m. and I haven't had ...

Thanks for letting us know about the Bonaroo broadcast! Bob and I just watched and it was great! Did censor EC a couple of times during his Bush rants. Boo censorship! He was very amused with his Dubya bobblehead labeled "KNOB" (I'm assuming this is a Brit insult?). Was I going blind or di...

Your lyrics are AOK. Some sites have this: My Mood Swings (MacManus/O'Riordan) She was smitten from the first By a curious fellow She said I love the way you talk And with a a flounce she announces I love the way that you pronounce it: "Marshmallow" So she liked to sing along To her favou...

Okay, I do research for a living and I spent some time on this last night...it's amazing!! You're right!! I looked at hundreds of sites, and there are tabs and chords out there for every blasted EC song I can come up with and a few I don't know (which I didn't think possible), but not for "My M...

Diana was there. She was in the audience, about 5 rows back, with a man who looked like he could very possibly be her dad (just a guess, though, no clue what her father looks like). They headed backstage to join Elvis after the show. Show was great. This was probably the standout of the four we've s...

Pretty good; checked out few of the recommended spots, but no Elvis gems this time around. Unfortunately our time in Dublin was far too short, and once we hit the countryside the record stores were a little harder to come by...wearing my new sweater right now, though!

Cheers,

Hello! Yes, the Americans have once again returned to their home territory. We had quite an adventure! Between a "baptism by fire" indoctrination to driving on Irish roads (flying hubcaps, and all) and gale force winds on the Dingle Peninsula it was not your ordinary week, but we ended up ...

Matchmaker, matchmaker...

Elvis is in fact the quintessential matchmaker (although I'm more than a bit horrified that I might actually have something in common with "Blossom"). Bob and I met standing in line for EC's 2002 WIWC Tower Records appearance in Greenwich Village. I got on line at 3 p.m., and he got online...

Toussaint brunches

That's cute. They were doing sound checks right up until the last minute. But I have to say that he didn't look old to me...he looked great! I suppose if the image in your head is My Aim is True, then, yes, he's aged since then, but haven't we all... But Larry Campbell did seem really tired, althoug...

Impatient American that I am, I sent to Japan for it back at the beginning of January. It's great! Way worth the extra expense and I received it (believe it or not) 2 days before it was supposed to be released in Japan. Here's the link: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UCCH-1015 Tara :)

Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint at Joe's Pub 2/20/06

Mr. Costello was in rare form and high spirits last night in New York. The event took place at Joe’s Pub (the tiny, intimate club venue attached to the Joseph Papp Public Theater in Greenwich Village) and was an industry preview sponsored by Verve (the label of their upcoming collaboration, The Rive...
