Re: Look Now: new album announced!

As for Amazon: tax dodgers and minimum wage employers I prefer to avoid. Records are for buying in record shops, thank the Lord there are still some around. There are record shops that stock extensive new releases - if you live in major conurbations like Manchester or Cambridge. I'm sure Piccadilly...

New album update: Photographs Can Lie echoes This House Is Empty Now - both melodically and lyrically.
"Recall my father" v "Filled with laughter".
Both Bacharach and Costello songs, of course - and both great songs.

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

My amazon pre-order (in the UK) won't reach me until next week Tuesday! That's poor ... They must be shipping it from one of their off-shore bases ... Same with me - I pre-ordered and it said Tuesday delivery, which I was very unhappy about. If you went on this morning and ordered it today, you cou...

I think it would be a lovely gesture and respectful to Charles's memory, for Elvis to retire this song from future concert performances........

Re: Elvis's funniest line or song

The one that always cracks me up for some reason is "My Mood Swings".
Particularly the one word line "Marshmallow".
It's the way he says it for some reason. Maybe it's just me.

Re: Elvis on the One Show, BBC TV 1 tomorrow, 12 Sept. 2018

I watched the One Show last night and was surprised at how good it was. Of course there was a dose of superficiality, but mercifully little and Elvis got more screen time than Mel next to him. Managed to speak about the new album quite a bit, good outline of Stripping Paper, decent clips and even di...

Re: Master tapes with Elvis Costello - 10th September 2018

Missed a trick not going on spec without a ticket - wish you hadn't told us verbal!! Especially as I'd have combined it with a trip to the 4th day of the Oval Test and seen Cookie's last century. Gutted to miss both in retrospect! PS Is John Wilson any relation to Bob Wilson? They look very similar....

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

. The two tracks released so far make this LP sound like Imperial Bedroom come back to life. Happy days, colleagues. I agree - the most "British" he's sounded in ages and certainly back in Imperial Bedroom teritory, particularly in Under Lime - echoes of And In Every Home I think. Unwante...

Terrible news. Let's all hope it's been fully dealt with. Rest, recuperation and hopefully full recovery.

By the way, great service from the Cliffs Pavilion re the postponement - prompt email yesterday and a phone call this morning to check that we had received it and weren't travelling. Top class venue.

Re: Elvis and The Imposters, Nocturne Live - Oxfordshire (UK), June 16, 2018

Happy to agree with the assessment of Nick Lowe and the headline artiste but I really have to be a dissenting voice about the Waterboys. I liked their organist and the violinist was fine but the songs were uniformly poor. Predictable music and absolutely dreadfully prosaic lyrics. Each to their own ...

We don't get "She" in the USA very often...in fact, I've never heard it live. Well lucky USA!!! Continuing to play it in every UK concert is a complete mystery to me when he has so many of his own ballads that would much improve the setlist. Could do without Adieu Paris as well - all in a...

This was a must for me with Nick Lowe on the bill. Hoping for a bit of Elvis sings Nick and Nick sings Elvis stuff. Got some fairly decent tickets late last night on a presale before it was officially meant to start. Agree generally against festival performances but as only 3 acts from 6pm the setli...

Bunch of cloth-eared reprobates. They are pretty bad judges of films, even worse of songs.
Annette Bening should also have been nominated, although Frances McDormand should win.

Perhaps the version without the strings will be on the b-side of the 7" single  You'd hope it might be The Last Days Of My Youth but more likely to be Pump It Up, as it's on the soundtrack, or not happen at all. Unless something changes, we are in the part where he only makes records when...

Just bought it on iTunes. Hope a 7" single will follow - you never know.
It's a decent enough big ballad; no God Give Me Strength but 500% better than She.
