At least 3 of Radiohead (including Mr Yorke) are on record as being big fans. They've been known to do I'll Wear it Proudly in concert. Alan Bleasdale invariably finds an excuse to feature Elvis in his soundtracks (if Elvis doesn't actually write the whole thing, that is). I must know some more, but...

God I'm so bleeding ignorant!!! I was wondering whose that was today! I just have whole voids with earlier beatles records. Know the hits only. What's I'm Your Toy then? Otis, You Really Got a Hold on Me is a Smokie Robinson tune, one of a few Motown covers by the early Beatles. I'm Your Toy is a G...

When I was a mere slip of a lad I was taken aback by Mystery Dance - that was exactly how I felt!

Of course, I've figured out the steps since then

Although it's a very short song

Just as an aside, a colleague of mine told me an anecdote of when he saw Elvis at The Riverside (former name of 'probably the poshest studio he’s ever been to') back in 1986. It seems there was some kind of all day music workshop at the club. The organisers knew that the Red Wedge Tour was in town t...

Newcastle concert

Well, that was toppah! They both wore black suits ( EC with black shirt & red tie, SN with back tee shirt) and in good mood. In fact I've never seen him smile as much. The set list was almost the same as Glasgow (I'll study closer in the morning), and it seems some of the banter was the same (Ja...

Elvis on BBC Radio 2 this week

Our man is on the radio (again) as part of the Sold on Song series. He'll be at the Newcastle Opera House on Wednesday evening, but will join the Janice Long show sometime 'later' (after midnight).

Gyro: beef and lamb mixed with spices, broiled on a spit, carved off in thin slices, and usually served in pita bread with yogurt sauce and onions. Greek and yummy. Sounds like what we Brits would call a Kebab - essential eating if you're well oiled, but I wouldn't touch one sober (the 'meat' revol...

3. Newcastle Brown Ale (More places have this on tap here than ever before) There is an etiquette involved in drinking 'broon' - it must be cold, from the bottle (on tap? sacriledge!), and sipped from a half pint glass. Also, the barman may open the bottle, but he mustn't pour it for you. I don't k...

We've all had problems - whether macs or pcs. Truth is, we're all guinea pigs in corporate experiments in contoling our music experience. PIN coded downloads that can only be played by MicroSoft software are just part of it. Fortunately, there are just now alternative sources for these songs, but fo...

A very polite and attentive Elvis, who showed no signs (to this listener at least) that he was tired of giving the same responses about the meaning/influences/arrangements/direction of North. A couple of quotes (perhaps LaughingCrow could do the Full Monty?): 'Rock n Roll combos are a renewable sour...

Wow, an amazing cover of U2's 'Please' by Elvis tonight. Can I find this recorded anywhere? He said he's been thinking of performing it for the past couple of years, has he done so yet? He's performed it live a couple of times, including an Irish TV special, so it's available on boot, MP3, and MPG.
