Re: Elvis & The Imposters, Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia, March 31, April 1 & 2, 2024

I'll be at the April 1 show. I didn't buy tickets for the other shows because at the time (2023) I was going to be seeing EC in Iceland in May - which did happen. I could go to Bluesfest but I'm getting a bit old for that festival stuff.

Re: Elvis In Iceland with Steve Nieve and Special Guest, Nick Lowe, May 25-29, 2023

Yes, 190 people at Elvis In Iceland, not 100. The "extra 90" people in the Elvis In Iceland event definitely weren't ringers or locals. They were all EC fans, except for a small number of people (about six) who had been to the Rufus Wainwright event last year and wanted to do another event...

The show on Sunday May 28th.
I'm booked to fly in that day .
I return to Dublin on Tuesday May 30th.
They say "you can't take it with you", so I'm going to Iceland!

Re: Elvis In Iceland with Steve Nieve and Special Guest, Nick Lowe, May 25-29, 2023

I'm in! I presumably will have travelled the furthest to get there (from Australia). Doing it on a round-the-world ticket I was very tempted by Iceland. I’ve been before and it’s an amazing country but I can’t justify the cost after paying out for a trip to New York for four nights at the Gramercy ...

Thanks migdd.

I play guitar, bass, keyboards, harmonica, mandolin, so yes almost everything. The horns and violins and cellos and violas are played by me on keyboard.

WOW!! Have a great time!
Thanks!! I've never been to Iceland, but I have been to NYC (and seen EC there) so it seemed like better value.

My fifth album

As always, all brand-new original songs by me. You can find it at: https://songwhip.com/paulinglis/somewhere-under-the-radar I'll also be doing some live appearances, but that won't help you much unless you live in Australia! https://i.postimg.cc/qRtc9wTf/Front-Cover.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/xCWGYmf...

Re: Elvis inks exclusive Worldwide Music Publishing Deal With BMG

new reissues on the way? Publishing is different to recordings. It's basically the collection of songwriting royalties and promotion of the songs (in terms of cover versions and placement of the songs in movies etc). His recordings are distributed by UMG (a different company) and that hasn't change...

Elvis owns his back catalogue, so it means he gets most of that money.

Bear in mind that $143,100 is only from one streaming service, Spotify - there are other streaming services, and other sources of income for Elvis.

The new Mojo has a review of "The Boy Named If". Four stars (out of a possible five). They compare it favourably to "Brutal Youth".

Anybody know what make of guitar that is ? Logo on headstock looks vaguely like the National one but it ain't a resonator :? Good question. It seems to be wrong way around to be a National logo. However, National did make some conventional acoustic guitars back in the day. All of the non-resonator ...

Re: The Boy Named If, new album by Elvis & The Imposters, January 14, 2022

I agree, that's just gonna be a book of the lyrics - or possibly some parody of children's stories. I thought it is going to be additional EC fiction, that is supposed to flesh out the story-lines of the songs a bit more. Further exploration of the themes of the universe of the album? That's what I...

Re: Bruce Thomas interview on Caropop.com

Great interview - the interviewer is very good at pressing a point, though he should have kept on at Bruce about why he thinks 'I Hope You're Happy Now' is about Prince - that seems baffling! I'll have to listen to this interview. There's a "Minneapolis connection" that I suppose most peo...

Good spotting!

It looks like the cover art itself says "The Boy Named If And Other Children's Tales" rendered in EC's inimitable style.

I listened again and the radiohost said that there will be “live music” from Elvis Costello on November 11. He didn’t say that Elvis would be live in the studio. Maybe it is pre-recorded? I don't suppose there's any chance they're going to try and livestream from San Diego? People more technically ...

Re: My fourth album (and the rest)

You've got the balance of the vocals right ... they sit nicely against the music. A lot of people get that wrong. But - listening to "Too Many Minds", for example, although the mix is clear enough it just doesn't have any punch or any sense of space. I could fix that, assuming that you've...

Re: My fourth album (and the rest)

Yes I like "interesting" singers. Talking Heads is a good example, David Byrne is fairly brave to sing the way he does - hitting all those notes with *that* voice. The vast majority of new albums now feature completely autotuned vocals, and quite frankly it's killing music. It's unnatural ...

My fourth album (and the rest)

I don't just listen to EC. I write my own stuff, and have been doing so for a very long time. Don't expect it to sound like EC - because that would be a bit obvious - but it does fit into the "grand songwriting tradition", I think. My brand new "Last of the Old Fashioned Rock Stars'' ...

For some reason this isn't available in the UK, Australia, Japan and no doubt various other countries. I have contacted Audible, but no word on availability. A few people have also left messages on EC's social media accounts, some of which he has responded to - apparently he is aware of the issue bu...
