Re: All about the sound at Elvis's recent shows

Logging in to this site for the first time in years. Saw the show at the Chicago Theater on 10/29 and the sound was bad . Floor right, about 20 rows back. Anything that was loud was just a mass of undifferentiated sound. Really unfortunate, because the man worked hard for 2:45 and it was a great set...

Re: Did we celebrate this forum's 10th birthday?

All the best to the long-timers who came over from the old Zebrasnake board all those years ago (fun times). Pretty cool to see this is still a going concern.

Finally got this, and thought I would chime in on the old board. .... hey, my avatar is gone. In rough order of preference: No Hiding Place -- vintage EC AGT -- good, just missing great. I want the first phrase of the chorus to repeat before going down. Dig Steve's classic GH sound on it. Harry Wort...

I will log on to back mba up on this. It's pretty great. "Cattle and the Creeping Things" cracks me up, and I've listened to it a bazillion times. Also "Hornets, Hornets." If anything keeps me from loving it outright it's not being able to relate very well to the story(ies) and c...

I happened to hear 20th Century Man on my ipod last night, and noticed that it wasn't exactly a valentine to progressivism. I don't know anything about his politics per se, but the new song (haven't heard it) seems somewhat of a piece with the disillusioned romantic libertarianism, for lack of a bet...

I bought Arcade Fire when they didn't have the Decemberists in stock. Didn't care for it much for a couple months, but then got hooked on it. So I'll second that it's a grower. Still haven't gotten the Decemerists, but the cuts I've heard haven't grabbed me.

Somewhere down there is a discussion of Andrew Bird's Mysterious Production of Eggs, which I then went out and got and was indifferent to at first. But I haven't listened to too much else the last couple weeks. Best thing I've heard in a while.

Greg Brown, the Iowa folk guy -- Bathtub Blues. Jim Gill is a local Chicago guy with four or five CDs out that combine music and play in a way that seems to really connect with kids I know. There is nothing in his stuff to appeal to adults per se, nothing "knowing" or arch, but there is no...

Andrew Bird is a virtuoso violinist and whistler. I had not heard about this new record. He started out as a guest violinist with Squirrel Nut Zippers, and his first couple records with Bowl of Fire carry on that sound, or aspects of it. Which is fun in its way but not my cup of tea in album-size do...

crash8 -- Chopper One!! I don't even remember the premise of it. Well, obviously it involved a chopper. I think I liked the theme song, and I think it was on Fridays at 8, followed by an Alaska cop show called Kodiak, which, since we didn't have a CBS affiliate in my town growing up, was the closest...

These are mostly easy targets.

Lucinda Williams.

Edited once to say: Okay, just noticed the qualification "ever" on the thread topic, and I wouldn't put Ms. Lucinda on that level. I should probably just withdraw it, but hey.

I guess BWAP and WHAR get the prognostication prize today. Damn. I was digging Manning and the Colts offense. But then, my Fouts-era Chargers never went to the Super Bowl either. Doesn't look like Manning will if he has to play outside, or at least in Foxboro.

Well, go Steelers then.

I think we can be sure he's not listening to EC. If Bush WERE an EC fan -- or even knew he existed -- it would be weird. Well that's a semi-interesting little thought experiment: if Bush DID like an EC song, which one would it be? I'm thinking it would have to entail Reagan-esque mis-comprehension,...

With the Seahawks out, I lack a personal tie to any team now. But I've adopted the Colts, mainly from awe at Manning's amazing ascendance. I feel like I'm watching Fouts-era Chargers, or just about any of the QBs of my youth -- Bradshaw, Staubach, Montana, Marino, Tarkenton. Not so much in regard to...
