Re: Elvis in yet another charity auction

My guess is he owned and wore it. The reason being is that it's a vintage hat and a larger size. Most vintage hats are tiny sizes so more difficult to find larger size ones. You could also wear it to one of his shows and jump around while pointing at it! :)

Re: Elvis in yet another charity auction

Fantastic that it fits! That makes it even more special. Can you post a photo of you wearing it? I would definitely send a photo to EC. I am sure he would to like to see it in action. :)

Re: Elvis in yet another charity auction

Congrats! Let me know if I was correct on the size. Also would abe interested in knowing the brim width. Even with the wear it's better quality than what you find today and also not some trendy hipster hat. Any photos of EC wearing it?

Re: Elvis in yet another charity auction

This is actually a very nice hat! It's a actually an American made hat with a French name (I collect German and Austrian vintage hats). My guess is early 1950s but it could be older. It has some wear (especially the reed part of the sweatband and the liner is soiled) but is in decent condition. I th...

Re: T-Bone / Dylan project: Lost On The River

Rhiannon Giddens is , as I keep saying, the standout and this film has the honesty to emphasis this (when it's not "repeatedly showing Marcus Mumford's tortuous 'artistic process' ) by regularly showing her with questioning looks as the boys fiddle with their hats & do tricks with music so...

Re: T-Bone / Dylan project: Lost On The River

'Tenement, back alley ' into Google image search leads me to the photo that is on the cover of the New Basement Tapes. By Jacob August Riis (May 3, 1849 – May 26, 1914) , it's described as 'Those of Mullins alley (outside the tenements) ' in his How the Other Half Lives book, 1890 & as ' A grou...

Re: T-Bone / Dylan project: Lost On The River

Thanks! Also just noticed the hat he is wearing with TBone (see photo above). That one is even better. Notice very little taper from the front. This one has a more 30s look to it. Looks to be of high quality too(might be by Optimo Hats of Chicago). http://optimo.com/ Sorry for the thread drift.

Side note: EC wears much nicer hats off stage. For example the wider brim light color fur felt above which has a more vintage like form.

Re: Elvis at "A Tribute to Toussaint", April 30, 2013

There is no better than AT! Side Note: CN is not looking good physically. I noticed this the last a time a saw him (about 5 years ago). Also a lot of hats! What is interesting, is the hat that EC is wearing in the interview, is very high quality (it's a Milan straw, looks to be a custom -> maybe by ...

Side Note: He isn't wearing a Pork Pie hat. It's just a standard snap brim straw (probably paper) Fedora (probably a center crease). He is wearing it brim up which isn't as common but seems to be his MO.

Re: 40 DAYS OF ELVIS COSTELLO: A Countdown To WISE UP GHOST

Interesting observation about the hat :) One I thought "Hat Man" would've spotted. That looks like some type of wool Top Hat of low quality. The hat he is wearing in the Clubland video looks much better. I believe it's a Homburg (see the curled brim) and could be vintage or maybe a Borsal...

Yeah but he likes German composers. :) Can't agree with him about the food (love good southern German and Austrian food). Also my German friends are not what he describes.
