Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Sorry to be pedantic, but EC's dad didn't really appear in the advert for R White's, did he? Ross sang the catchy song, and I believe a young EC was on backing vocals. The man in the advert wore glasses and I assume that is where the rumour about it being EC's dad began. He was a proper actor. Ross...

Re: Barney Bubbles question
My brother photographed all the Bubbles artwork for this book and there's lots of Elvis in it (My brother was at Jake Riviera's house last week!). Lot's of previously unseen artwork; not just completely different unused album sleeve artwork, but completely different album titles! "Cats & Do...

Got this email from a friend of mine: My danish friend melissa went to see it. here's what she wrote: I attended the 2nd performance of the Elvis Costello's song cycle about Hans Christian Andersen and Jenny Lind at the Copenhagen Opera House yesterday afternoon. It was a great experience! The Opera...

Will, I don't know about that Dylan comparison. Dylan was THE voice of a generation (at least of its more politically active end of it); EC has always been a cult act whose music was more insular. Yeah, I wasn't comparing Costello to Dylan in terms of impact. It's more that people listen to them bo...

Yeah, Clinton was fairly well respected in the U.K., mostly as a consequence of his involvement with the Northern Ireland peace process. It helped that he actually appeared to have read a book once too. Elvis writes about the things he feels strongly about. Politics happens to be one of those things...

My understanding of music copyright law is that anyone can cover a song without permission from the songwriter, as long as they pay the PRS cheque to the publisher. Paul McCartney doesn't have to okay every cover of 'Yesterday'. You do have to ask permission to use a particular artist's performance ...

Erik Larsen?About 15 years ago or so, the artist who worked on The Amazing Spiderman AFTER Todd McFarlane (I cant remember his name), constantly drew Elvis Costello posters on Peter Parker's walls.

The latest issue of DC comic's 'Solo' comic, featuring the work of Darwyn Cooke, has a story entitled 'King of America'.
There was a recent-ish Warren Ellis comic called 'Tokyo Storm Warning'.

The analogy I would use is Alfred Hitchcock. He made about 60 movies in his career, about 5 of which are bona fide classics and about 15 are merely fantastic, which leaves about 40 movies which range from curios to duds (my figures are less than exacting but you get my point). And you know what? Nob...

Could be wrong, but I think WIWC did even better than Spike.
His two most "commercial" albums (with the exception of Punch The Clock) were TYM and Armed Forces. After that, it was all downhill, commercially.
Not quite. I think Spike has been his all time biggest seller after MAIT.

The tag or the image?
The tag's from TFI, from when EC & TA played 'It's Time' circa '96.

Elvis also played 'Heart Of The City' on the original 'Live at El Mocambo' bootleg. He's joined on stage near the end of the concert by Martin ("The Giant of the 'G' chord! The Empire State of the 'E' chord!") Belmont for PIU and then Nick joins them for HOTC. It's excised on the Rhino off...

I like the chutzpah of more or less claiming respnsibility for the melody of Crowded Houses's Don't Dream It's Over! It's also the keyboard melody for Radiohead's 'Fake Plastic Trees'. Thom Yorke was quoted as saying that 'I'll wear it proudly' was "the song that changed his life" in a BB...

Maybe it's a play on words, 'Only World' rhymes with 'Lonely World' the title of his Painted From Memory tour with Steve Nieve.

Elvis at UK Virgin Megastore re-openning.
According to an inside source, Elvis will be a 'special guest' at the (re-)opening of the Virgin's new Megastore (used be Tower Records) in London's Piccadilly Circus. I don't have an exact date yet, late August/early September I believe.
