Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

A $59.99 "Thank You" to And No Coffee Table . The 30% Off Code you provided worked perfectly today. It's still insane to pay $139.99 (+ taxes) for this, but "I don't want to hear it, 'cause I know what I've done. I know . . . I know . . . I know . . . I KNOW!!!!" : 0 ) Many thanks!

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

I noticed the "AUTUMN!30" 30% Discount Code no longer works. Anybody know of a new 30% Discount Code that DOES work? $140 is better than $200. In fact, at $200 there's no way this EC Lifer can take the plunge.

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

Listening to EC’s demo version of “ Green Shirt ,” I have to believe he may have had Paul Simon’s “ Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard ” somewhere in the back of his mind. Listen to: “ Better send a begging letter to the big investigation .” And then listen on Simon’s Demo Version to: “ When the pa...

Re: New song “Hey Clockface / How Can You Face Me’, sept 11, 2020

Sounds like I'm in the minority here. This is my favorite song off the new album (so far). I liked it when EC debuted it on Steve's Facebook Immobile Tour earlier this Summer and really love the arrangement. Now, in full transparency, I also greatly enjoyed Elvis singing "Let's Misbehave" ...

Re: Blood and Chocolate Survivor - Final Round

Now it can be told - I would have been happy for any of these to have been top: Blue Chair Next Time Round Crimes of Paris They are just so incredibly melodic, poppy and joyous, undercut by the dark lyrics. I heart them. The verses pull you in, the choruses are INCREDIBLE and the middle eights are ...

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?

I've been fortunate to have seen EC about 75 times in a 37-year period (1982-2019). A shout-out to HARRY LIME for how similar our EC Paths have run. My first concert was Friday, August 13, 1982 at The Ohio Center, Columbus, Ohio and my second was Sunday, August 15, 1982 Music Hall, Cleveland, Ohio (...

Late chiming in here, but "Next Time 'Round " is actually my favorite song on Blood & Chocolate, and easily in my own personal "EC Top 20." For all of the reasons mentioned . . . and a few more. Namely, I love that young Declan's Catholic upbringing finds its way into the sen...

Did anyone notice an entry on EC's Facebook page by Nemi Von Fritzenberg? She says Rose Brennan, who sang with Ross MacManus in the Joe Loss orchestra, had a cousin named "Hetty O'Haire." An improbable coincidence?

It's fair to say you can probably hear the influence that "Oh Well Part 2" must have had on The MacManus Gang EP "A Town Called Big Nothing" from 1987.

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site

I wonder if "Maud" was inspired by Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 1855 Victorian-age poem? In its day, people were shocked by the "morbidity and hysteria" of it. Tennyson's Maud leads the narrator's father into bankruptcy and ultimately suicide. I suppose we'll know . . . if there is a ...

Re: New song ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’, July 10, 2020

As nearly everyone has noted, a definite WIWC 2002 vibe. In fact, I bet in a live concert setting, EC could seamlessly weave a line or two of "Hetty" into "Episode Of Blonde" without anyone really noticing. "So you jumped back with alarm/Every Elvis has his army/Every rattle...

Very much enjoying this friendly discussion. Count me in as a fan of MLAR . " Couldn't Call It Unexpected #4 " is one of the best vocals EC has ever done. " All Grown Up " is also fantastic. But then again, I adore NORTH , and just about everything on PFM . In fact, I frequently ...

Re: New song "No Flag" released June 5, 2020

Indeed. The "Arlo" would also appear to be a nod to Arlo Guthrie, a protest singer in his own right, and son of Woody Guthrie, whom EC has covered in the past: "So Long, It's Been Good To Know Yuh (Dusty Old Dust)" at Mill Valley, and "Pretty Boy Floyd" snippets during ...

Can't imagine any other artist dropping "No Flag" and "Hey Clockface" within a couple of months from one another. A raver and a crooner. Crunchy and smooth. There's always an EC to suit every mood! "No Flag" seems like a sequel to "Walk Us Uptown" . . . Will y...

Happy Ascension Day

Today (Thursday, May 21) is Ascension Day (40 days after Easter) on the Catholic calendar. "40 days passed by . . . but we'll all be together, come Ascension Day." Leave it to former Altar Boy Elvis to dip back into his upbringing to mine it as an allegory for a personalized hymn about pos...

Re: Steve Nieve - The Daily Improvisation

Wondering if the date of the EC appearance with Steve (May 17) had any impact on the song selections. It was May 17, 1986 when EC "married" Cait O'Riordan at St. Stephen's Green. Hearing a Pogues tune and "My Little Blue Window" had me thinking that May 17 from 34-years ago may h...

Full Disclosure: IbMePdErRoIoAmL is my favorite EC LP of all-time (as noted by the fussy way I typed out the title!). But seriously, I bought it the day it came out on July 2, 1982, (as a 20-year old), and was instantly mesmerized - plus PRINTED LYRICS for the first time ever. It also served then (a...

Re: EC to appear on Artists4NHS interview and live performance series, March 27, 2020

Interesting EC talks about Dusty Springfield's version of "Losing You (Just A Memory)" from her "White Heat" LP. It was recorded in 1982, but how about the irony that a 25-year old Davey Faragher played bass on that LP! Talk about life coming full circle. Amazing. Surprised EC di...

And of course, 1980's High Fidelity begins with . . . "Some things you never get used to" from Diana Ross and the Supremes just 11 years earlier.
