Re: Elvis and The Imposters with others in Hyde Park July 12
I am working that day, but even if I wasn't, Hyde Park is the most dreadful venue. Sound is terrible, audience are terrible - not even sure the great EC could give a memorable show there.

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013
I hoped he would do Glastonbury and he is. I guess that makes seven times in June.
Have only actually physically received tickets for Southend so far. They're leaving the Albert Hall gigs late to send out the tickets.

Saw Ben Kweller last night at The Electric Ballroom. He was excellent - backed by two members of Brighton's Electric Soft Parade, he did a run through of his best material from throughout the years instead of merely plugging his new album like so many artists tend to. Excellent and very likeable.

Re: Costello "official" website
I have to admit that I was never a fan of the idea of "premium membership", but was a premium member thanks to my purchase of the deluxe Ram box. I was happy about the idea of real fans getting their hands on pre-sale codes, but didn't agree with the £40/$60 payment. It's not as if McCartn...

I saw Jack White at Ally Pally last night. He was pretty good, but the sound was overwhelming, hard to separate and somewhat distorted - slightly difficult to completely enjoy, but it was a decent night. Doubt if I'd go back to Alexandra Palace again, though, as the transport links are dreadful and ...

Don't get too excited about 10CC - it's basically just Graham Gouldman from the the "classic" line-up, plus a couple who joined after Godley & Creme left. However, Gouldman is a great songwriter and musician and I've heard really good reviews, so thought it would be worth the time and ...

As I don't want to see all the quality music magazines fail, I've just subscribed to Mojo for at least a year. It was either that or Uncut , but the latter's complete obsession with Americana (as much as I like the genre) puts me off a little. Mojo has the best of everything. I'd hate to see it go, ...

Re: Recent CD Purchases
I thoroughly recommend Beth Hart's new album, Bang Bang Boom Boom . Passionate, soulful, incredible vocals. It's not a competition, but if it was, it'd knock Elvis' wife's latest vocally bland effort out of the water. The new Mumford & Sons album is fairly enjoyable. If you liked their debut, th...

Like that cover of Rent, such a great song. Boo Hewerdine lives up the road in Ely and does a fair amount around these parts, but I've never seen him. I know some big fans, though. Looks like I missed a chance to see them here last weekend. He's doing a Christmas gig on December 18th in Ely, The Ma...

Saw State of the Union on Thursday at small venue with an audience of about 80. I'm not that familiar with either Boo Hyerdene or Brooks Williams but both were excellent and however unlikely the partnership of an American bottlneck slide guitar maestro who mainly has background in blues, and an Eng...

I saw The Proclaimers in York last night. They were superb. I don't know what their stock is like around here, but I personally love their songs and consider them underrated talents. Their latest album is genuinely one of their best and they're in a rich vein of form in their songwriting and perform...

Ha, 24 hours apart. Ever been there before? Me neither. But capacity 905 + good acoustics sounds promising. Cracking Dexys (no apostrophe now) show at the Cambridge Corn Exchange this week. Played all the new album in its entirety note for note, worked very well, then went Until I Believe in My Sou...

Re: The Stones - O2 and NJ
If I'm honest, I could afford the lowest two price tiers - but, out of principle, would not pay that kind of money for a concert. It's extortion. I'd love to have gone to the O2, but it's an elitist event for the rich. By pricing tickets this way, normal working class people have been told that they...

Re: The FINAL word on Bebe Buell stalking Elvis Costello
Wow. Not sure what purpose that site serves, other than to confirm what many of us have read about Bebe, but it's certainly damning. As far as EC goes, Buell is history - but she sure inspired some fantastic songs... and amongst the bitterest and most powerful he's written. For that, I guess we shou...

Lovely stuff. Bugger, why did I only see him once over here? Want more, eg. Motel Matches. Love the audience walking for She (though not as good as Cambridge where we were standing, and he was singing away an arm's length from me, my God!), though when he goes to the front at the end, the guy trans...

Am I being blasphemous in saying that I prefer McCartney's reading on the 1989 album, Flowers In The Dirt? It's a beautiful song, whichever rendition floats your boat.

All This Useless Beauty, too. Maybe not his most cohesive work, overall, but there aren't many artists who could release a better album that one of EC's supposed "lesser" efforts. Love it to bits.

Thank you for that, MOOT. I've entered! In the meantime, I've just booked my 6th EC show of the tour. Southend now added, have a front row box seat. Re: 40 Terrible Albums by Great Artists - Guess which EC alb
Well, I bloody LOVE Brutal Youth and When I Was Cruel. Outstanding pieces of work, both of them. I could pick a song or two from both which don't set my world on fire, but as complete entities, I would list both amongst my favourite albums of all time, let alone favourite EC albums.

Yes, through the pre-sale, I got row 'V' at Brighton, my home town - but they have a great view of the stage and the sound balance is good there, so I'm not upset. Actually, that's not true. I'm a little upset that general sale have offered row 'B'... doesn't seem fair, but hey ho, never mind. The t...
