I'm seeing Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings on Thursday at the Beacon. She always puts on an amazing show.

Sad news. I saw Pete a few years ago at the Newport Folk Festival. There's been some Twitter chatter about naming the soon-to-be-built replacement for New York's Tappan Zee Bridge after Pete. That would be a lovely gesture.

Don't know how I left Laura Marling off my list, but she's probably be at the top.

My purchases have fallen way off this year, so I don't know that I'd have ten to include. Very much enjoyed WUG. In addition i will put in a good word for Richard Thompson's Electric. Would also echo the praise for the Dylan Self Portrait re-issue and Bowie.

His new album, Electric, is excellent as well. Not a lot of clunkers in his catalogue. Maybe a bit of dated production in some of his 1980s albums but the songs overcome it.

You haven't read any of his novels, have you? (Assuming he already has published some.) Spent some time last night at my weekly band rehearsal working on 16 Military Wives with my chums. Laura Marling's "Once I Was an Eagle" - absolutely superb. Best thing I've heard in a long long time.

Picked up the new Camera Obscura - "Desire Lines." Very very good so far.
