I think Imperial Bedroom would be his Pet Sounds/Pepper.

Probably the artist whose catalogue EC's is best analogous to is Dylan:

This Year's Model: Highway 61

Almost Blue: Nashville Skyline (or Self Portrait if you're being uncharitable)

King Of America: Blood On The Tracks

I like the horns a lot - it's the best thing some of these songs have going for them. Listening to the '83 tour bootlegs, I think they actually work better on the "Get Happy!!" numbers as most of PTC is really not soul but reworked Merseybeat-style numbers (listen to the bonus demos). Seve...

I think it is an Irish thing. My hair is about as dark as EC's but whenever I grow a beard, plenty of red sprouts up. He somewhat resembled early Plastic Ono Lennon when he played "All You Need Is Love" at Live Aid. http://www.crlf.de/ChuckBerry/JL517-200.jpg http://www.f3.dion.ne.jp/~doka...

Didn't Barney Bubbles create the sloppy paint cover?

They've used EC before. I've heard a snippet of "Clown Strike" played in between Biff Henderson's man-on-the-street segments.

I was weirded out by the fade ending on the Rhino "Mystery Dance" - I thought they had messed up. But I've since read the song ends that way on the original LP. I still prefer the dead-stop. If they do some kind of "Taking Liberties"-style clearinghouse cd, they should stick thos...

I got Kucinich 90%, Kerry 85% and Bush 3%....doesn't surprise me. I got similar results in the primaries when I supported Edwards.

Kucinich didn't officially drop out until just before the convention last week, so I guess that's why he's still up there. :?

Haven't heard the new cd yet but the overdub was on the original single (b-side of Sweet Dreams?).

Re: Bass

The bass line is borrowed from Crooked Beat by the Clash. You sure about that? Trust came out only one month after Sandinista (January 1981 vs. December 1980). Since Trust was completed in November, Elvis would have needed an advance copy of Sandinista . That's true but according to the EC sessiono...

Bass

The bass line is borrowed from Crooked Beat by the Clash. EC alludes to this in the liner notes of the Rhino reissue but doesn't mention the song by name.

Sneaky Feelings and Pay It Back both sound a bit like the acoustic demos on the bonus disc, that is, a bit more immature and less personal than the rest of the album. Good call. The original "Pay It" was actually on the Flip City demos that "Imagination Is A Powerful Deceiver" i...
