Ah, you answered my last question here! Same event, but curiously with a different name. I'm looking forward to it even more now!

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I can't get enough of Stripping Paper. Elvis's best song since, I don't know, well Tripwire though that was relatively recent. Elvis's best album since... ATUB? BY? Earlier? Has anyone commented on Davey's bassline on the chorus of Mr and Mrs Hush? It's insane, and brilliant. Here's hoping that the ...

Amazon Schmamazon. I went to good old Fopp (thank god they never abandoned Cambridge) and was delighted to find the deluxe CD for £13 and extra delighted that Record Store Day meant a further 10% off - £11.70 - not bad at all. And the newJohn Grant for £9. Let's hear it for the record stores. Can't ...

As an non Mancunian United supporter, when we had a massive out of town support in the early 70's the days of division 2 etc it was considered a good thing that fans came from all over the country to support united. But typical of this country as you as you become the best they want to bring you do...

Re: Elvis plays Manchester Castlefields 2018

I saw a listing that only referred to Heaton & Abbott, implying they are definitely the headliners. I've always found Heaton to be very irritating, though Abbott has a nice voice. I think Elvis is due a Forestry Commission tour so he can play Thetford in easy driving distance from Cambridge. Saw...

I was there too, but sorry I didn't get to see you VG and Sulky. I picked up my tickets at.6.30 and there were already a few diehards queuing at the door. I met up with my London-resident son and went to a rather busy La Porchetta just along the road for a nice bit of pizza, but they were so busy I ...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play The Roundhouse, London July 6 2016

I remember Black Sails in the Sunset very well, so I guess that means I was at the 27th one. First time I'd heard it, great introduction. I enjoyed the roughness of the venue. I also recall Distorted Angel with Chelsea sung over it toward the end. Worked nicely. One thing I had totally forgotten was...

Re: New book about Elvis , in Spanish

Muy interesante. The title = 'The Man Who Would be King'. Literally 'the man who could have ruled', but that's what the film's called. I think the back cover might have been a better choice of image for the front: https://elviscostellorey.wordpress.com The author is a journalist who maintains two mu...

EC 'This Much I Know' in UK's The Observer, Sunday May 1st 2016

Well blow me down if it ain't Elvis gracing the Observer's regular Sunday magazine feature 'This Much I Know'. The biggest revelation here is his love of curling! This media blitz is to tie in with the Palladium shows, plugged in the footnote. Hope they're good. Photo same Mary McCartney as back cov...

Case/Lang/Veirs. Holy trinity of female talent. I've been into all 3 over the years, but chiefly Laura V in recent years whose July Flame album from c. 6 years back is a cracker. Just listened to three off the album on YouTube and it's all great. Hope they tour in Europe.

Otis, I hope this further whets your appetite for the new Miles bio-pic- it sure boosted my already considerable interest. Indeed, and also confirmed that it is the only one of the two I will seek out! The fact that the Baker film is described as not a film about music but about heroin addiction ju...

Re: Recently viewed films

Good to know you're no great Chet enthusiast. Ethan Hawke was excellent in Boyhood (love that scene with Wilco's Hate It Here in the car as he explains the words to his son!), and I can easily see him as Chet. I am more interested in the film now. The Miles one does sound really interesting, especia...

Glad you dug it too. Is it just me that finds Chet Baker remarkably uninteresting? I like his solo on Shipbuilding well enough, but I don't go for his singing at all and I couldn't stomach Let's Get Lost , the film. In fact the opening scene had me reaching for fast forward, which I applied to reduc...

Quick search reveals this interview and quote: Q: XTC's 1986 album Skylarking was your most gruelling production job, right? TR: I would say probably true. But that's the price of admission. You never know what's going to happen. I try not to dwell too long on the horrible things Andy [Partridge] sa...

No refs to Spotlight here? Somewhat old school, but a cracking film telling a powerful story. Well done from start to finish. Also enjoyed Hail, Caesar! though it's pretty lightweight stuff. As ever, they realise it perfectly and with a stellar cast. Clooney is perfect as a Buzz Lightyearesque dimwi...

Really enjoyed that article and YouTube link. A recording mic fetishist's dream article! A better bet than Dirty Grandpa, then? I saw another 'little' film this weekend, Rams, an Icelandic film. Well it's now past the 17th anniversary and UMDI made me listen to it again for the first time in years. I played it quite a bit at the time of release, and loved certain of the songs, but have always found the recording something of a letdown. The strained high voice we've commented on here and els...

Hmmm, may have to pass on Joy but wow is The Revenant worth seeing. Great description of the opening by you there but I don't really agree about it being too one note, I found very well-paced and powerful in its story-telling. I was gripped to the end, the time flew by. It's one of the best evocatio...

And of course the wonderful Green guested on I Wanna Be Loved. There was a rumour for years on one of the Costello sites that the two were planning some sort of collaboration, but clearly nothing happened. I note that they did share a bill in 2010: http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concer...
