Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 6 June '13

If I only had the time...bet I could make an excellent concert video by editing all these multiple clips of songs together. I think it would have the edge over the the Wiltern one, in the sense that it'd be actually more in the spirit of the shows.

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Southend on Sea, 19 June 2013

Sorry to ask all, but is anyone driving or training it from London? My partner, mentioned above, doesn't want to miss the gig even though I can't go due to work (and we can't seem to get any takers for the tickets). She might appreciate a lift back or company on the train if possible. Just thought I...

Have 2 tickets for Southend I expletively annoyingly can't use due to work. Please spread the word to anyone who might want. Cost price. I can console myself with having had 3 nights at the Albert Hall but I was looking forward to mosh pitting in Essex, as you do.

From the photo I'm intrigued to see what's on Elvis' "laptop" and also what suspiciously looks like a setlist taped to the monitor The computer screen is very intriguing. It has the wheel on it, not lyrics as expected. Does this mean there's a sinister conspiracy to fix the wheel (possibl...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 6 June '13

I'd love to have combined the three nights! Tuesday was a gas, the entire hall standing the whole way through - but EC's guitar sound kept failing and the acoustics meant you could hear Pete's snare drum twice every time he hit it. Wednesday - great sound but for me the set had less flow and the spi...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 6 June '13

Bonnie didn't sing at all sadly, citing in a croaky voice that she'd been playing at the BBC all day but Elvis fiddled the wheel to land on Either Side Of The Same Town and offered to croon it for her. She sat quite delighted, interacting with him and the band. Lovely. Are you going to any other nig...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 6 June '13

Awesome night. Probably best of the three. Doll Revolution second in the Overture for one thing but the whole show had flow, the audience in raptures. Lots of dancing, lots of emotion. I Want You was spun early and seems to get even more intense every night. Also met Verbal and happily smoothed over...

That was a helluva party last night. Elvis blowing his amp during the overture actually added to the team spirit. As has been said his voice was in very good form. If he can put on as good a show tonight then...well I just hope I have that much energy when I'm his age (not too long to go now).

Re: Why wasn't the Sessions At The 54th West ever released ?

Have to say I taped this on venerable old VHS when it aired here years ago. EC's performance of GGMS is the best ever committed to video I think. Though some of the music on Spectactle works brilliantly, a lot of the time when cameras are rolling he's somehow just somehow not displaying what he has ...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 4 June '13

Agree with you Little, hopefully he's resting his voice, which he does cane on tour - he'll never learn I think, the passion is always there though. If he will insist on marathon shows with a lot of full on singing and emoting, giving us more than our money's worth etc, what does he expect! Which re...

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

I've speculated about this before, but I think there is a key difference between this collaboration and Costello's previous ones. Costello/McCartney/Bacharach/Toussaint/etc... Usually, it's Costello honoring an elder statesman, and they like him but simply don't have the same encyclopedic grasp of ...

Very good point - it was her and Regan's hard line AND willingness to negociate that allowed Gorbachev to end the Cold War - added to the fact that the Russians were broke, couldn't afford to keep up the arms race and couldn't control their satellite states anymore. On the other hand the oligarchs (...

Re: 'a newspaper picture..A woman was kissing a child'

Agree re 2012 UK tour, it was the right time to revive it given sickening Cameron and sickening nature of what Leveson revealed / confirmed about years of Thatcher's rule and the years since. Now the old lady has died it's different, the song imagines that poetically, it doesn't actually enact tramp...

Re: 'a newspaper picture..A woman was kissing a child'

Fantastic idea, let's all buy the download (come on its cheap compared to the reissues we've shelved out for over the years) and get it in the charts. I hope some newcomers to EC are downloading it out of interest and probably being quite surprised and struck by what they hear. This just in: 79 on i...

That's an interesting article Otis. I can imagine Elvis rolling his eyes when he heard the news. He's booked to come here soon and the prospect of journos asking about it and gig goers shouting for it might not seem wonderful. The song is not a Maggie Maggie Maggie Out Out Out vitriolic chant that th...

Re: 'a newspaper picture..A woman was kissing a child'

To me he played it as movingly as ever on the 2012 wheel tour. Gut wrenching stuff, 'filled up with dreams and poured down the drain'. Absolutely I agree it should be played a the funeral if it's a state one and we're paying for it. The only alternative they should be offered is, as Ken Loach said t...

Re: EC/Imposters play Glastonbury, June 29, 2013

After 2005 I'm generally having the feeling that Ec & Imps set at Glasto 2013 will be less than inspiring. They're suckers for punishment - and for a cynical moment I'd add to that pay and a gig that some agent says will raise their UK profile.
