It was good when Elvis sang it on "The Richard & Judy Show". They did quite a lot of research before interviewing him.
I always thought Richard Curtis and co got the idea for using She after hearing Terry Hall & Dave Stewart's version

Re: Cait O'Riordan
I don't remember Queen getting a mention (it could have been earlier on in the show though). He says Billy Idol should join up with Sigue Sigue Sputnik. And he jokes that even when Julian Cope talks it sounds like singing. Cait talks about how she loves Van Morrison's music and that she thinks Brix ...

Re: Cait O'Riordan
I have an old tape of a radio one interview Cait and Elvis gave to Janice Long in the mid 80s. It turned up recently when I was having a sort out. They are reviewing the singles - they both love Julian Cope's "World Shut Your Mouth" (Costello quips he'll give up his o.b.e if it isn't a hit...

I also feel it's great just knowing that Nick Lowe exists in the world. I think Mr Lowe is a serious contender for the title "Greatest Living Englishman"

It seems like Elvis is on a bit of a roll. Every time I've seen a clip of him playing live lately the magic and intensity is back. The set list was a corker.
Hope he comes back to London soon.

Re: 2 tone
That's seems rather a lot but then again I haven't seen a copy around for quite a number of years. I went to Coventry a month or so ago (to give a lecture to some art students) and ended up having a look round the "-Tone museum that they now have there. Dave Wakeling (from the Beat) is raising ...

Re: Rock on Tommy!
That was astonishing. There is one sketch they did about 30 years ago that I remember being quite funny. Ric Mayle played the part of a fussy barman. Every time Bobby Ball helped himself to some peanuts the barman tried to replace the exact amount of nuts Bobby took. Well... as I say, it was only qu...

I didn't Harry but I was late there. Due to a sick child I also had to leave early. I think we're going to look at a date in August. What is your work finishing time as you could still join us. Hello, on saturdays I work till half five. I'm in Pimlico so pubs in Charing Cross rd would be easy to ge...

I work on saturdays so I couldn't attend.
If you were in the Charing Cross rd you must have been withing walking distance of the National Portrait Gallery - did any of you pop in to see if the painting of Elvis with a scarf was on display?
Hope you had a good meet up

Re: Re-examination of "Punch the Clock"
[quote Enjoyed the Paul Speare stuff. I saw him and Big Jimmy live twice, once with Dexy's Sept '82, Birmingham Hippodrome, great show despite the over-the-topness of Kevin in his dungaree/soil rubbed on face phase, and then the above-mentioned PTC tour show. Funny how he writes in detail about the ...

Re: Re-examination of "Punch the Clock"
Hello, Paul likes Elvis and says he was a pleasure to work with. He's proud to have been involved with the Free Nelson Mandela single (that Costello produced) and his memories of the wild Punch The Clock tour are positive. He talks about sessions he's done on his website: http://www.paulspeare.com/i...

Re: Re-examination of "Punch the Clock"
I've always liked Punch The Clock and I think the bonus disc of acoustic demos is great. I'm mates with Paul Speare (from The TKO Horns). He's a fantastic fellow and a great sax player. Re: Reasons To Be Cheerful - EC in new Barney Bubbles book
(This is my first ever post... Hello everyone) I bought the Reasons To Be Cheerful book. It's very good indeed. I work opposite the Chelsea college space where the exhibition took place so I got to see the work close up. At the opening of the show I got to have a brief chat with Nick Lowe. He said h...
