Re: LOOK NOW on 8 7" 45's box set coming 2/22

to tell the truth, i just bought a new one because i found the l.n. cd so harsh to listen to and, well, 'flat' -- no depth of field so to speak (on earphones it was okay, on the $8000 system, brash and loud, and if i turned it down, too quiet...very strange) and i kept reading about technical stuff ...

Re: LOOK NOW on 8 7" 45's box set coming 2/22

i've got to admit that as someone raised on 'singles' and flip sides (she's a woman!), that list looks utterly delicious (look now! i'm the sort of sucker this is for I guess??). some old memory trace of two songs back to back. getting very very brief memory rushes of waiting for the 'next' single o...

Re: LOOK NOW on 8 7" 45's box set coming 2/22

hmm. l.n. plus bonus cd = 16 therefore could = eight two sided 45s. I get it, though. We don't need this, so hopefully it is either a waste of money and just ignorable or a beautiful thing...thinking of two sides of 45 sleeves with lots more space for himself's art...

"I mean, how can you have an artist who recorded King of America, but King of America doesn't make his Top Five? How do you have an artists who's recorded Mighty Like a Rose, Spike and Look Now, but none of them make his Top Ten? Ridiculous. A timely reminder, on New Year's Eve, of just how ama...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

seems that there are more side projects than non-side. doesn't that make the imposters the side project? just kidding, of course, but e.c. has always been a bit of a strange case...one reason we love him, of course (and are sometimes frustrated or surprised or, etc.).

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I remember quite clearly how painful it was back in 2010 for National Ransom to seem to disappear without hardly a trace of recognition and how that disappearance, I'm embarrassed to say, slowly eroded some of my own love of it (it really is time I pulled NR out again). I recall some speculation her...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

All these rankings are encouraging, but can someone remind me of how this compares to e.c.'s other releases, say, since 2000? Are these exceptionally good, average, normal, worse??? my uninformed impression is that this better than 'usual'???

Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

utter poetry He had great air and the show was flawless. Or maybe I was drunk. beautiful (interesting post as well) his songs certainly are sometimes just bulging with words and ideas and points of view and baits and switches. even something simply like the backstage assistant being warned not to te...

Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

i do understand the characterizations of e.c. re: sinatra, but some of the things you mentioned might just as easily be seen as characteristics of his (that he has got quite good at using) rather than simply failures to be something/someone else. there's lots of a sort of subtlety on looknow, i think.

Re: 'Painted From Memory' on Broadway

And the scenes of reminiscence of the old days can include the dance numbers that e.c. keeps saying that producer folks want. . . could even include numbers from 1978/9, pogoing and stage-diving to old e.c. tunes! this is too easy!! so part of the arc could be the ennui of having been young and swea...

Sugar! Yes, absolutely top tier and I agree, 40+ years into a career and having a career equal, if not career best, is just such a lovely thing. Welcome. It is so interesting how a new arrival like this cascades back through the whole forty years, turning some songs into precedents, highlight this a...

Lovely to hear, thanks. Can anyone help me understand why something about his vocals sound, what? Flat on some live recordings? I know it couldn't be that he IS singing flat...must be some sort of acoustic issue with recordings like this one, that the echo/space of the lowish-fidelity sound betrays ...

Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

It's interesting in itself how difficult this task is to think of covers. Says something about the uniqueness of e.c.'s talent as a singer and the uniqueness of the songs themselves...his talent as a writer. there are so many ins and outs to many of his songs -- depth, someone mentioned above -- tha...

Yes. It is a beautiful thing. And this song (and many others on l.n.) are, well, imagine Sinatra singing "Don't look now." Try to imagine someone else singing "Stripping Paper." Not many have the control and clarity. And then, too, the song itself is so good, and could be deeply ...

I really love this guy and the work he's given us and still gives. Radio...
