it was actually a Cleveland station, and they had a British Top Ten countdown every evening, which, in the fall of 1965, included a yet-to-be-released Well Respected Man

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

back in the day when FM radio actually existed, songs -- i'm thinking of first hearing Tokyo Storm Warning or radio radio, or, in fact, hearing Elvis at the El Mocambo live on CHUM-FM in early 1978 -- would 'come out' before the full album and could, sometimes, even be found by rummaging in -- what ...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

and the oboe! shades of Smokey Robinson, as is the song itself. overall, these songs feel sonically 'similar'...hard for me to describe -- arrangements, background vocals, that oboe (it's in under lime, too...it is an oboe, yes?). over 50+ years of listening, sometimes songs on albums used to sound ...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

"A masterpiece salvaged from cancer's jaw" is one of the most horrible pieces of writing I have ever read, let alone a horrible sentiment/idea. Wow. Very impressive.

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Agreed, Neil. At first, it seemed as if the melody would never repeat. Took a while to coalesce. Wondering, is there some reason to put out a couple of songs this long a time before the release of the CD? Seems long enough to create buzz and have that buzz cool off completely by the time of the rele...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Under Lime. I’m fascinated…yet another song about the underbelly of show-biz, failed/tragic careers, the back-room theatre hallway seamy-ness, and a figure, here, that seems still almost hopeful. This atmosphere is certainly found in “Jimmie standing. . .” and, sort of, even in “Watching the Detecti...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Agreed, Harry, those high-register flourishes on bass, so melodic, etc. Reminds me, too, of first hearing such a thing at 15 years old, May 1966, with the Paperback Writer/Rain single

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

with these lyrics on Under Lime: "Once every crime was confessed," especially the last three words, it is strange voice he's using that I've not heard before...a Bowie sort of something or other? i find it slightly startling when it arrives. I like the effect. around 3:46 of https://www.yo...

Okay, hi. Let's do it: "Gentleman, do talk to you friends - you'll find you are not alone - seek your doctor's advice if you are in doubt or when it is timely and act as swiftly as you may in these matters." To any of my fellow posters who have hesitated over the years regarding being test...

Re: Thoughts on the New York Shows...

From a distance, looking at the set lists etc., it seems that there is nothing much especially new with these shows. Is that true? Seems repetitive to a certain degree. No break-out venturing? Seems still kind-of 'stuck.'? not so jardine. with the volume of long unplayed songs, the eight or so chan...
