Re: "Isabelle in Tears"- for whom does that bell, toll?........

I've said it before, I'll say it again, sometimes I really love this forum! so nice to have those who can unravel these songs in ways that make them even better. many thanks. now i'm even reading the title as if it is a question: "Is a belle in tears?" Yikes. this makes both the song and y...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters, DAR Constitution Hall , Washington DC, November 4th 2018

I was looking at the set list and saw plu at the end of the show and then checked out something that never occurred to me before: "BMI royalties are performing right royalties, which are earned when a musical work is performed publicly. Public performance occurs when a song is sung or played, r...

Re: EC/Imposters Hard Rock Atlantic City November 3, 2018

I count eight songs from the new album and, i think, more last night. question for those in know: is this a lot of new material live from a new album? or to be expected more or less?

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I thought *I* was the Invisible Man. But I suppose we didn't see each other before. Anyway, the album is growing. It doesn't exactly work like a McCartney album, which is relatively simpler(*) and straightforward. Now many of the melodies are stuck in my head. (*) although you can find articulated ...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

"On Burnt Sugar is So Bitter. A pleasingly discordant brassy riff plays the song out, that discord supposedly a paradigm for the bitterness." Paradigm isn't the right word, but the idea is fabulous. I noted that discord a few pages back, but didn't make the connection to its "bitter&q...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Okay, I understand. I've got old ears, but I got so concerned with the "crowded" sound of this CD and talk over at another board about compression and so on, that i decided, after a looooooong time, to buy a new turntable, and to buy Look Now on vinyl. I am now officially amazed at the dif...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

"'I Let the Sun Go Down.' Everything about it, from the restrained, poignant vocal," a vocal similar to 'the puppet has cut his strings, i think. great falsetto as well. As for Adieu, being Canadian, i'm used to a wide "range" of French accents, and i think the song itself...some...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

something discussed on hoffman starting to make a bit of sense. love this cd on earphones, but when i play it on my system, it sounds...how do i put this? ... too loud, or, better, like a solid wall of sound that, when i turn it up to hear various elements, nothing seems to 'stand out' exactly. hard...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

A fine word, I'd say, and very useful for this album. Finding I'm still overwhelmed in listening to it. I'm really trying not to say that I think it is one of the very best he's done. As someone said above, this venture is so thick with ideas, melodies, images, that it takes time for the songs to &q...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

First time all the way through. I'm stunned. Davey and Pete are so good, so important on this. And so many other things to say. The production, the background vocals, those bass things that one reviewer called 'raised eyebrows'. Can't wait to listen through again, beginning to end. The lingering aft...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Parts of "I Let the Sun Go Down" remind me of "The Puppet has Cut His String," especially his voice and shreds of the melody/melancholy.

Burnt Sugar, the flat trumpet notes -- are they flat or just some lovely weird chord in the brass? fabulous. i LOVE all these songs. wow. but, as has been said, only after several listens.

A cut and paste (w. thanks to Neil from the Mary Ann Hobbs thread) if you want to hear Don't Look Now and Stripping Paper.
