Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

i do understand the characterizations of e.c. re: sinatra, but some of the things you mentioned might just as easily be seen as characteristics of his (that he has got quite good at using) rather than simply failures to be something/someone else. there's lots of a sort of subtlety on looknow, i think.

Re: 'Painted From Memory' on Broadway

And the scenes of reminiscence of the old days can include the dance numbers that e.c. keeps saying that producer folks want. . . could even include numbers from 1978/9, pogoing and stage-diving to old e.c. tunes! this is too easy!! so part of the arc could be the ennui of having been young and swea...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Sugar! Yes, absolutely top tier and I agree, 40+ years into a career and having a career equal, if not career best, is just such a lovely thing. Welcome. It is so interesting how a new arrival like this cascades back through the whole forty years, turning some songs into precedents, highlight this a...

don't look now vancouver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkaqRbTRhjs still slightly off somehow...i'm wondering if part of his vibrato gets "picked up" by whoever is recording and . . . oh heck, i don't know! for those of you who frequent concerts, is this noticeable at all? (i don't want ...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters, Vancouver, BC, Canada, Queen Elizabeth Theatre , Dec. 4th 2018

Lovely to hear, thanks. Can anyone help me understand why something about his vocals sound, what? Flat on some live recordings? I know it couldn't be that he IS singing flat...must be some sort of acoustic issue with recordings like this one, that the echo/space of the lowish-fidelity sound betrays ...

Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

It's interesting in itself how difficult this task is to think of covers. Says something about the uniqueness of e.c.'s talent as a singer and the uniqueness of the songs themselves...his talent as a writer. there are so many ins and outs to many of his songs -- depth, someone mentioned above -- tha...

Re: "Stripping Paper"- an archeology of Eros

Yes. It is a beautiful thing. And this song (and many others on l.n.) are, well, imagine Sinatra singing "Don't look now." Try to imagine someone else singing "Stripping Paper." Not many have the control and clarity. And then, too, the song itself is so good, and could be deeply ...

Radio Radio: https://youtu.be/SM8WZMkn_w8 took the (very) long way home yesterday so i could hear all of Look Now loud in the car with sunlight and mountains to the west. now, after that, watching this video, I have to say it. I really love this guy and the work he's given us and still gives. Radio...

I've said it before, I'll say it again, sometimes I really love this forum! so nice to have those who can unravel these songs in ways that make them even better. many thanks. now i'm even reading the title as if it is a question: "Is a belle in tears?" Yikes. this makes both the song and y...

I thought *I* was the Invisible Man. But I suppose we didn't see each other before. Anyway, the album is growing. It doesn't exactly work like a McCartney album, which is relatively simpler(*) and straightforward. Now many of the melodies are stuck in my head. (*) although you can find articulated ...

"On Burnt Sugar is So Bitter. A pleasingly discordant brassy riff plays the song out, that discord supposedly a paradigm for the bitterness." Paradigm isn't the right word, but the idea is fabulous. I noted that discord a few pages back, but didn't make the connection to its "bitter&q...

Okay, I understand. I've got old ears, but I got so concerned with the "crowded" sound of this CD and talk over at another board about compression and so on, that i decided, after a looooooong time, to buy a new turntable, and to buy Look Now on vinyl. I am now officially amazed at the dif...

something discussed on hoffman starting to make a bit of sense. love this cd on earphones, but when i play it on my system, it sounds...how do i put this? ... too loud, or, better, like a solid wall of sound that, when i turn it up to hear various elements, nothing seems to 'stand out' exactly. hard...
