Re: 10 NIGHTS AT THE GRAMERCY NYC FEB 2023

I keep getting this message:

"We’re sorry, but all tickets in this section are currently being reserved. However, we are not sold out at this time. Please refresh and try again."

*Grumble*

EDIT: Now they're sold out

Re: Is "The Beat" the first recording by EC and the Attractions?

It would also seem to make "The Beat" the earliest studio recording by Elvis Costello and the Attractions. The Basing Street Studios version of "Chelsea" (first released on the Rhino This Year's Model ) was recorded four days later. Confirmed studio recording, at least. The supp...

This is an incredibly enticing prospect.

Do we have reason to believe Target will be stocking this title in their stores? I'd think as a branded exclusive, it would make sense. On the other hand, they stock so few CDs these days and this seems like such an ultra-niche product to cram between BTS and Taylor Swift.

Re: Spanish Model, Sept 10, 2021 - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums

I haven’t seen anything to indicate if the upcoming TYM remaster includes a remix of the entire original album but given the nature of the Spanish Model project, that would seem to make a lot of sense. If nothing else, a remix would seem like a stronger marketing hook than “NOW WITH FEWER BONUS TRAC...

I’m intrigued by the implication there is a EC&A version of “Running Out Of Angels” in the vault.

Though it’s possible it’s just the solo demo with new overdubs and an odd credit (the Rykodisc CD where it was originally released was credited to the full band, so that could be the explanation).

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

Well that was a bit unexpected. I was watching the Siskel & Ebert 500th Episode Anniversary Special, and during a sequence spotlighting some of their more spirited disagreements, I believe “Stalin Malone” is playing in the background (perhaps on a loop). Skip ahead to about the 7&1/2 minute ...

Re: New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!

He said it is This Year's Model on stage tonight in Manchester! Makes sense. In fact, i wouldn’t be surprised he had the idea after reworking “This Years Girl” for The Deuce a couple years ago with Natalie Bergman. Maybe it grew directly out of that experiment? Elvis and his producer Sebastian Krys...

Re: New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!

A “Complete Sessions” box for one of his classic albums would be unprecedented for him, and uncommon (though certainly not unheard of) among most other artists. I’ve found the Dylan sets of this nature to be beguiling, though I know wading through multiple false starts and interrupted takes isn’t ev...

Fun fact: Mary Lucia is Paul Westerberg’s younger sister (not the one who inspired “Waitress In The Sky”). She’s a significant fixture of the Twin Cities music scene in her own right.

An episode of the new season of Veronica Mars just revealed that the Mars family motto is “I used to be disgusted. Now I try to be amused.” Now where have I heard that before?

Also, in a previous season, the song “Veronica” (a karaoke version) was featured.

Re: Universal vault fire: Were any EC tapes lost?

The NYT published a follow up piece that lists hundreds of artists who had some or all of their tape archive destroyed. It’s NOT conclusive but for now EC isn’t on the list. Sadly, T-Bone Burnett Is on it (though I imagine it’s only a slim portion of his work that was kept there). https://www.nytime...

Universal vault fire: Were any EC tapes lost?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/magazine/universal-fire-master-recordings.html A heartbreaking look at the Universal vault fire, which destroyed countless hours of session tapes from artists famous and obscure alike. Is there any reason to fear EC's work with Universal was stored there? In any ca...

This article from 2003 suggests Capital Radio was looking for their original tape of the 1977 EC session, but I haven't seen any follow up on it. Anyone?

Re: Elvis Costello - Radio Sessions 1977 - 1983

Is there a more recent Radio Sessions collection out there (including perhaps the Capital Radio Session, though I presume it's too much to hope that a complete version of "Hoover Factory" has emerged?) or is Martin's superb 2011 compilation still the go-to version? Is the April 7th, 1978 K...

Very in-depth interview, with details I've never seen before (including the fact EC believes they recorded demos of "Veronica" and "Back On My Feet" that got misfiled):
